CM Punk is making the transition from WWE to UFC, but he’s stopping by the Marvel Universe in-between. He’s making his writing debut in Thor Annual #1, teaming with Chew creator Rob Guillory to tell a story of a less mature God of Thunder.

“He’s going to Midgard and slaying dragons and hanging out with Vikings and drinking all their mead and sleeping with all their women,” Punk tells USA Today. “He’s kind of taking the whole ‘I’m the thunder god’ responsibility pretty lightly.

“There’s obviously some growing pains from that Thor into becoming the Thor that’s worthy of the hammer, and there’s a lot of fun stories in there.”

Punk says he treated his Marvel debut the same way he treats most anything, as if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which led to the story having some guest stars.

“I kind of approach everything in my life like this is the first and possibly last time I’m ever going to get to do this,” he says. “I’m either going to bomb so horribly, they’re going to hate working with me, it’s going to stink, so to me selfishly I wanted to write as many characters as I possibly could (and) also Rob could draw as many different Marvel character as he possibly could.”

Punk mentions that he’s looking forward to doing more writing for comics โ€“ he has a story in the upcoming Vertigo Comics Strange Sports Stories anthology โ€“ but he’s not trying to rush anything.

“I’m not signing on to do a 24-issue, crazy all-encompassing Marvel Universe story arc or anything like that, nor do I think they’re going to give me that sort of responsibility. So, baby steps. We’ll get there.”

Thor Annual #1 goes on sale February 25. Check out the preview pages in the gallery below.
