Earlier this year, DC Comics announced that it would be celebrating Batman’s 75th Anniversary by proclaiming July 23 “Batman Day.” The publisher promised plenty of special items for retailers to have on hand as part of the Batman’s birthday celebration. DC comics has released images of two of those special items: the special edition of Detective Comics #27 and the Batman 75th anniversary poster (via CBR).

Dectetive Comics #27 Special Edition is a reimagining of Batman’s 1939 debut as written by Brad Meltzer, with art from top tier talent like Bryan Hitch, Scott Snyder, Sean Murphy, and Chip Kidd. The cover is a repurposing of current Batman artist Greg Capullo’s cover from Batman #0, replacing the background with an image of the original Detective Comics #27. Also of note is that both Bob Kane and Bill Finger are credited on the cover, suggesting that there may be some reprinted material from Batman’s early days. The issue will be given out for free at comic shops on “Batman Day,” and will be available as a free digital download via digital comic book providers.
The Batman 75th anniversary poster is a timeline of Batman’s history, from 1939 to the present day. ย The poster will not see a commercial release, but will be made available for retailers to display during the event. It includes all of the major milestones in Batman’s history, from his first appearance, to the debut of the original Batman TV series, the first publication of The Dark Knight Returns, the debut of Batman: The Animated Series, and all of Batman’s appearances in film.
Other special items that will be available on “Batman Day” include a special anniversary cape and a set of masks designed by Ryan Sook. “Batman Day” is timed to coincide with the beginning of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and is also the release date for two new Batman family titles, Grayson #1 and Robin Rises: Omega #1. “Batman Day” will be celebrated in public libraries Saturday, July 26.
