It’s looking more and more like a sequel to X-Men: First Class will soon be a reality. Last week, Deadline reported that director Matthew Vaughn had signed with Fox to return for a second installment with Marvel’s merry mutants. Sherlock Holmes writer Simon Kinberg will write a script and Bryan Singer, who has had a hand in all of the X-Men’s big screen adventures, will produce. The decision to return likely cost Vaughn the director’s chair in another Marvel Comics sequel he had been expected to helm, as it now appears that if Kick-Ass 2 does happen, it will be without Vaughn, who co-wrote and directed the first, according to an interview with his co-writer Jane Goldman. It didn’t take long after Vaughn’s return for two of the first film’s stars–characters who should, in a sequel, be well on their way to becoming villains–to sign up as well; today, The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision reports that Michael (Magneto) Fassbender and Jennifer (Mystique) Lawrence have deals in place to return for the second film in the rebooted X-franchise. James McAvoy, who played Professor X in X-Men: First Class, has not yet been announced as returning to the franchise but has been vocal about his desire to do so in the past and will presumably return as well.”In the film we just did, First Class, we got to see how Magneto becomes Magneto, how he leaves Erik behind and takes on the persona of Magneto,” Fassbender told MTV News in an interview last November. “We’ve yet to see how Charles develops into Professor X. I think that’s going to be interesting to take a look at.”
