In an exclusive clip from tonight’s episode of Syfy’s 12 Monkeys, we get our first real glimpse of life in the 1940s for Cole. In the clip, our hero meets FBI Agent Gale (played by Jay Karnes) for the first time, and Gale instantly takes an inquisitive look at Cole.

“Agent Gale has an excellent detective mind,” showrunner Terry Matalas teased to Comicbook.com, “and can sniff out that Cole is… not from around these parts.”

Matalas also teased that Gale has a larger role to play than it seems, and in a show centered around time travel and preventing the end of the world, that can be a very broad statement.

Oh, and in case you were wondering? Yes, the FBI agent’s first name is Robert aka Bob. Bob Gale was the writer of Back to the Future, one of several nods and references to that film (and other time travel fiction) that 12 Monkeys has made.
