Warner Bros. has big plans for J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and has already scheduled a sequel for the much-anticipated film
The first film in the series doesn’t drop until November 18th, but studio executives seem to think it won’t have a problem finding an audience. President of Creative Development Greg Silverman and Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing at Warner Bros. Pictures announced that a sequel to Fantastic Beasts is scheduled to hit theatres on November 16th, 2018 (via THR).

It’s not exactly surprising that Fantastic Beasts would get a sequel, as anything related to the Harry Potter franchise has been a license to print money for the studio in the past. It is surprising though that they would greenlight it over 3 months before the original hits theatres, or even gets a few test screenings.
Either they’re very confident about the film or are just assuming that the Harry Potter lineage and success will carry over. The good news is that if Fantastic Beasts does resonate with audiences, the team will be staying intact for the sequel. David Yates will again be in the director’s role, who has a long history with the Potter films. Yates also directed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2. Suffice it to say, he knows the franchise quite well.
In addition to Yates, the sequel will also bring back producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram, as well as Executive Producers Neil Blair, Rick Senat, and Danny Cohen. Rowling was responsible for screenwriting the first Fantastic Beasts, and will be doing so again for the sequel.
