Five Questions Raised From The Suicide Squad Trailer

As you’ve probably seen it a few times already now, the second trailer to the upcoming feature Suicide Squad, by Warner Bros and DC Comics was released Tuesday afternoon. It was completely different than the previous one last year with a more comical tone, and obviously a ton more footage.

Amanda Waller sets the stage with her intentions and we get a look at the team with Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) doing a roll call. There’s Deadshot (he shoots people), Killer Croc (he eats them), Enchantress, Katana, Slipknot, El Diablo (he burns them), and Captain Boomerang.

While the footage shows a lot of action scenes and interesting character moments–Boomerang always ready for a fight and Harley being the joyous little psychopath–there’s still some burning questions surrounding the film. Let’s take a look at a handful real quick, shall we?

Who is the bad guy the bad guys are after?

ย

“Let’s go save the world.”

From the looks of it, the city the Squad was hired to protect is getting absolutely trounced by…something. It’s been rumored that the Joker is the main threat here, but it looks like he’s primarily being used for flashback sequences. It’s doubtful Joker could do something on such a global scale, but Batman does show up at some point, so that’s possible, but highly unlikely.ย

So if they’re not brought in to bring down Joker, what brought them together? That leads us to the next question.ย

Can somebody tell me…

ย

What is this thing?ย

Shown very, very briefly is this tentacle…thing. It’s shown again possibly attacking a train. It looks like it moves like a sea creature, but not sure what it is. Could this be the enemy? Could this be one of Entrantress’ spells? Or neither? Both?ย

It seems to have caused a ton of damage and the military are trying to stop it. It’s unclear, but definitely something to watch out for.ย

Scott Eastwood’s unnamed role

ย

When Scott Eastwood (son of Clint) was cast, rumors were speculating he’d be one of the pieces of glue that binds the entire DCEU together. Maybe Steve Trevor, maybe Hal Jordan…who’s to say?ย

Obviously, we know he’s not Trevor, but the possibility of Hal is likely, as they’re keeping that as a surprise, but Hal is currently in the military and the beard won’t work on a flyboy. So who is he? There’s been literally no clue or hint to who he could be, and it is one of the production’s more guarded secrets.ย

Joker and Harley sittin in a tree K-I-L-L-I-N-G?

ย

Oh, these two weirdos.ย

So the relationship status of DC’s favorite Bonnie and Clyde on weapon-grade psychotics is unknown so far in the movie. We’ve seen what could be the start of their relationship as pictures of Leto as Joker in a straightjacket and Margot Robbie has plain oleย Harleenย Quinzel have surfaced, but what’s their current relationship status?ย

I’m guessing we could file this under “it’s complicated” because what we’ve seen of the Joker so far, he’s either snarling, smiling, or shooting. If they were together, would he have tried getting her out? Or are they on the outs because of something else? It’s still unclear, even with the new trailer.ย

What’s up with Katana’s sword?

ย

An interesting scene to put into a trailer if you ask me.ย

Katanaย (played by Karen Fukuhara) is a bad ass with a sword, that’s just comic fact, but why does it have this eerie smoky glow to it? See it?ย

Is this really her actual sword, Soultaker? Now, in the comics, Katanaย possesses the supernatural blade, Soultaker, that has the ability to capture the soul of every being its killed and can talk to that spirit for aid or power.ย

Even the soul of her dead husband. Is this a soul of something she kills or summoning a spirit? It would be very interesting if they went this route as they’ve been stirring away from the more mystical side of the DCU, but man, what if…

What has the new trailer got you talking about? Did you notice anything weird too that has you hyped or curious still? Let us know!
