If you’re among the many anxious fans eagerly waiting for ComicBook.com’s #1 Rated Show Game of Thrones to return… keep waiting. Because winter’s not coming until the summer.

While speaking with the Irish Independent, star Liam Cunningham may have let slip when the seventh season will premiere on HBO.

“I’ve been disappointing various people around the world because it was meant to come out in April,” Cunningham said, “It’s July now, I think.”

We knew that the series would be delayed from its usual April premiere date, but not how long. Rumors of the show’s return in the summer have popped up for a while, and now we have a better idea of when.

It’s important to take this with a grain of salt, however, as an actor’s word is not the same as the network that airs the show.

But the actor, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth on the hit series, hinted that HBO has big plans for when the series returns.

“There’s going to be a launch and something special happening this year for the premiere,” Cunningham revealed, before tempering the excitement with more foreboding.

“The bad news is, there will only be seven episodes and the final season starts [shooting] again as far as I know in September.”

That lines up with the filming for this latest season, as the production needed to wait for the season to get colder so that they could portray winter finally arriving in Westeros.

So July premiere dates might be the new normal for Game of Thrones’ last two seasons.

Hopefully we get an official word from HBO to follow up Cunningham’s slip up.
