Hotel Transylvania has broken its on record at the September box office. This weekend, Hotel Transylvania 2 brought in a staggering $47.5 million, which was the biggest September opening weekend domestic box office of all time. The previous record holder was none other than the first Hotel Transylvania movie, which brought in $42.5 million back in 2012.

The success of Hotel Transylvania is a much needed win for Adam Sandler, who has had a number of recent flops at the box office. It’s also a big win for Sony Pictures, which has had some struggles at the box office this year.
After Hotel Transylvania, The Intern took second place, bringing in a distant but respectable $18.2 million. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials took third place with $14 million. New wide releases Everest took in $13.1 million and Green Inferno took in $3.5 million.
