The Rob Thomas-produced iZombie pilot set to go into production for The CW has cast a trio of actors in supporting roles, Deadline reports. The adaptation seems to be more and more an “in-name-only” adaptation of the comic, as none of the three characters named existed in the Vertigo comic book by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred, and unless we’re missing something, they aren’t even obvious analogs for characters who do exist in the comic. The series has also renamed Gwen Dylan, the series’ main character, as “Liv,” according to various sources. KSite says she’s “Liv Moore,” which is the kind of pun I thought was usually reserved for characters in PBS’s Curious George cartoon.Breakout Kings‘s Malcolm Goodwin has been cast as a co-lead in the drama pilot, along with Last Man Standing‘s Alexandra Krosney and Alias‘ David Anders.Anders seems likely to be only in the pilot, whereas the others sound like they’ll be regulars if the pilot goes to series; according to Deadline, “Goodwin’s Clive is a detective who recently received a promotion from vice to homicide but has been floundering for his first two months and is in desperate need of making a case….Krosney plays Peyton, Liv’s best friend and roommate who is baffled by Liv’s recent behavior and feels like they’re drifting apart. Anders cast plays the show’s bad guy Blaine, an entitled rich kid who bites off more than he can chew in the drug business.”Goodwin’s character apparently doubts Liv’s abilities at first, but can’t argue with her effectiveness and ends up working with her. If the show goes to series, maybe he can hook up with Tim Omundson, whose Carlton Lassiter on Psych has had that same basic persona going for the better part of a decade, and who’s nailed it.
