Today is the 18th anniversary of the release of J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in North America), and Rowling is celebrating in the most exciting way possible.

On Twitter, Rowling announced she’s working with writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany on a stage play that will tell a brand new story of “The Boy That Lived,” Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Rowling avoided spoiling any details about the play’s plot, but confirmed that it is not a prequel, meaning this may be fans’ first real look into Harry’s adventures folowing his final battle with Lord Voldemort.

To fans wondering why The Cursed Child is a play rather than a novel, Rowling says, “I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.”

Harry Potter fans have been settling for new glimpses into the “Wizarding World” released via the Pottermore website to quell their appetite for more stories. The upcoming Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them trilogy of films will return moviegoers to the universe of the Harry Potter stories, but will not touch on Harry’s saga in any way. Now fans have a true new installment in Harry’s story to look forward to.
