“So, are you the new Robin?” I asked.
Malone didn’t even blink. She gave me a little wave and slid off to the bar.
It’s common practice for those connected to projects of this size to either evade, or even to lie outright, in the early stages — and it’s certainly that for Malone. The notion of her involvement had for a long time been limited to baseless speculation — she had shown up on set, purportedly to visit her friend and former director (in Sucker Punch) Zack Snyder — and fans took it to mean she might have a role. It wasn’t until the last couple of weeks that any credible sources reported that they’d heard she had a job in the movie — just a day after speculation ramped up that she might be cast as Carrie Kelley, the female Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, when an extra claimed he had heard there was a female Robin in the script.
The dot-connecting there was fast and furious, but it’s hard to blame anyone; after dying her hair red recently, the Hunger Games actress was already starting to draw speculation again.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters in March of 2016.
