The image was tweeted out with a message reading, “I am Pentecost 2018 #PacificRimUprising.” The tweet seems to confirm that Boyega is playing the son of Stacker Pentecost, Idris Elba’s character in the original Pacific Rim.
Boyega already was spotted on the Pacific Rim: Uprising set in Sydney, Australia wearing his Jaeger armor. He has also previously shared some artwork from the film.
Pacific Rim: Uprising, previously titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, is the sequel to the original Pacific Rim, which was directed by Guillermo del Toro and released in 2013. The concept is mecha vs. kaiju, as inspired by Japanese anime and monster movies.
In Pacific Rim, long ago, legions of monstrous creatures called Kaiju arose from the sea, bringing with them all-consuming war. To fight the Kaiju, mankind developed giant robots called Jaegers, designed to be piloted by two humans locked together in a neural bridge. However, even the Jaegers are not enough to defeat the Kaiju, and humanity is on the verge of defeat. Mankind’s last hope now lies with a washed-up ex-pilot (Charlie Hunnam), an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) and an old, obsolete Jaeger.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil) and written by DeKnight, Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin from a story by Guillermo del Toro.
Pacific Rim: Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian, as well as Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman, who will reprise their roles from the first Pacific Rim.
