Confirming rumors that have been floating around the Internet for more than a month, Men in Black 3 star Josh Brolin admitted to The Huffington Post today that he was indeed briefly considered for the role of Batman in the forthcoming Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel sequel. He apparently harbors no particularly ill feelings toward Ben Affleck (who eventually ended up with the role), though: he hopes Affleck does a great job and forces his legions of Internet haters to eat their words.Asked whether the rumors that he was at one point in talks with Warner Bros. about playing Batman–it would have been his second DC Comics role, after Jonah Hex–the actor confirmed it, saying, “We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.”He might be happy for him–but of course not all of the fans were, and it’s only the negative that made headlines. Brolin himself sounded a little flabbergasted when he talked about the Batfleck backlash.”I’ve never seen such a global reaction in my life,” Brolin said. “I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like, ‘F–k this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.’”He added, “I just feel for anybody who gets lambasted at that level. I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.”In addition to Jonah Hex and Men in Black 3, Brolin has a role in the forthcoming comic book adaptation Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Frank Miller, who created the Sin City graphic novels, has been called in as an adviser to Zack Snyder on Batman vs. Superman.
