As The Los Angeles Times reported, a family friend confirmed his death earlier this week. Kinoshita, who lived to be 100 years old, was an art director for several other television series and movies like Sea Hunt and Bat Masterson.
His most-recognized work, however, was undoubtedly the robot that accompanied the Robinson family in “Lost In Space,” which had the famous line “Danger Will Robinson!” The line became, and mostly still is, a famous pop culture reference used in other tv shows, films, and music. The robot is said to take many visual cues from Kinoshita’s prior creation, Robbie the Robot from the 1956 classic Forbidden Planet.
Lost In Space was a television series that ran from 1965 to 1968 on the CBS network. The science fiction adventure followed the Robinsons, a family of humans who traveled throughout the cosmos in Earth’s first space colony.
