While cosplay is always a viable option for embodying a favorite superhero, one Canadian makeup artist is making possible to literally transform into a comic book character as they appear on the printed page.

Through the mastery of body makeup, artist and designer Lianne Moseley can turn anyone into a comic-ready superhero, painted abs and all. A bridal designer by day, Moseley’s real superpower is transporting subjects into the comic book medium with a body paint style that evokes classic comic art. With thick ink lines and muted colors, she basically turns people into living, breathing George Perez art.

And like the greatest of mortal heroes, Moseley is a self-made wonder. She says that she taught herself everything she knows, spending years perfecting her craft.

“My mom sold catalogue cosmetics and right from the start, I just got right into it,” Moseley revealed. “In high school instead of studying I spent a lot of time practicing and doing friend’s makeup.”

It generally takes Calgary several hours to transform her subjects toย comic-ready heroes, with the face and torso taking between 90 minutes and two hours. Hey, no one said being a hero was easy.

Moseley will be at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo on April 16-19, where she’ll paint subjects on site.
