According to SlashFilm, each variant cover will see a DC Comics character pay homage to the movie posters behind Warner Bros.’ catalogue of films, ranging from Gone With The Wind to Magic Mike.

The Warner Bros. movie poster variants continue DC’s tradition of giving monthly themes to its variant covers. This month’s theme is a series of classic DC Universe moments by Darwyn Cooke, January 2015’s variants will be Flash themed, and February 2015’s variants will be Harley Quinn themed.

In Slash Film’s debut of the covers, DC revealed four variants. “Batman and Robin #40,” drawn by Tony Edwards, homages Harry Potter. “Wonder Woman #40,” drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz, tributes 300. “Superman #40,” drawn by Dave Johnson, tributes Super Fly. Finally, Tony Harris’ cover to Batman/Superman #20 is inspired by The Fugitive.

HitFix also scored first looks at the variants, including a Purple Rain-inspired cover to “Batgirl #40” by Cliff Chiang, a Gone With The Wind inspired cover to “Superman/Wonder Woman #17” by Gene Ha, a The Lost Boys-inspired cover to “Teen Titan #8” by Alex Garner, and a Mars Attacks-themed cover to “Justice League United #10” by Marco D’Alphonso.

Screen Rant has looks at “Superman #40,” an homage to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure by Joe Quinones, “Detective Comics #40,” an homage to The Matrix by Brian Stelfreeze, “Harley Quinn #16,” an homage to Jailhouse Rock by Dave Johnson, and “Green Lantern Corps. #40”, an homage to Forbidden Planet by Tony Harris.

IGN revealed “Green Lantern #40,” an homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey by Tony Harris, “Batman #40,” an homage to The Mask by Dave Johnson, “The Flash #40, an homage to North By Northwest by Sienkiewicz, and “Aquaman #40,” an homage to Free Willy (brilliant!) by Richard Horie.
