, they’ve got the tale of how the latest Hellboy 3 rumor got started–and then got its knees cut out from under it before it really got moving. This one involves director Guillermo del Toro, currently promoting his new film Pacific Rim for Legendary Pictures, in which Hellboy star Ron Perlman appears. Perlman and Legendary founder Thomas Tull are also roped into the rumors, which start as follows:”I hate giving pieces about it, but last night, we were at dinner and Ron said, ‘I would be very happy to do Hellboy again, when are we doing Hellboy 3?’” del Toro told ShockTillYouDrop. “Thomas [Tull] said, ‘I would love to see Hellboy 3.’ He didn’t say he would love to do it he just said he’d like to see it, but today, I’ll ask him.”Predictably, that quickly became, “Could Hellboy 3 be alive at Legendary?!””Seeing how we don’t own the rights to Hellboy, there may be lawyers that would get upset about that. But you know, in Guillermo’s world, maybe he can make that go away. I don’t know,” Tull told io9.With Legendary breaking away from Warner Bros. and looking for a new studio home, it certainly might be appealing to Tull to have a ready-made franchise. The rights currently rest with Universal Pictures, which is one of the two studios Legendary is rumored to be in talks with. What that could mean is that Tull, del Toro and Legendary could all be in place at Universal, along with the Hellboy rights, by this time next year.Of course, that’s just more speculation…UPDATE: In the original draft of this story, we erroneously reported that the rights belonged to Columbia Pictures, who distributed the first film and who are not one of the studios with whom Legendary is rumored to be in talks.
