Famed comics writer Nick Spencer, best known for his creator-owned work Morning Glories, announced today via Tumblr that henceforth, all of the creators who work on comics he owns will be credited on the cover. That means colorists, letterers and other artists who don’t generally get recognized on the same level as the writer, penciller and inker will be listed on the credits beginning in April.”There’s been a lot of talk about who gets cover credit lately,” Spencer wrote. “Starting with Morning Glories #26 and Bedlam #7, the creator-owned books I’m part of will credit the whole team. Alex [Sollazzo], Johnny [Lowe], [Jean-Paul Csuka], Kelly [Tindall], and Tim [Daniel] all work so hard on these books and are a vital part of what makes them what they are. They deserve the props.”As a side note, Morning Glories #26, pictured above, will be only a dollar and begins “season two” of the hit Shadowline series, making the beginning of Spencer’s movie poster approach to creator credits a perfect jumping-on point for new readers.EDIT: It’s certainly worth noting that this is not a new practice. We got a handful of responses that a number of prominent creators do this with their indie/creator-owned work, which is true–Greg Rucka’s brilliant Stumptown (seriously–brilliant, go buy it) did it, for example, and he’s now doing it with Lazarus–the real point here was in recognizing that it’s a growing trend, including among “name” creators such as Spencer.
