It’s been confirmed that Rachel McAdams has been in talks with the folks over at Marvel for a Doctor Strange role, fans had assumed she was out for Clea, the good doctor’s love interest. That might not be the case, though.

At the Television Critics Association panel today, there was some interesting notes about why Rosario Dawson’s character was given the Claire Temple name and not Linda Carter, or even the Night Nurse moniker.

Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight mentioned that the MCU feature films already had that character called for. “The feature side had plans for her down the road so that was the only time we ran into a conflict. So we just used another name.”

Now, Claire Temple is actual Marvel canon as she’s the ex-wife of Bill Foster and, at one time, a romantic interest for Luke Cage. Temple is a night-shift nurse, so it seems that Dawson’s portrayal is more of a composite of Night Nurse Linda Carter and Temple.

The Night Nurse comics from the 70’s featured more real life situations and didn’t tie to the Marvel Universe at large until decades later when Carter was brought into the superhero fold by doing pro bono work on injured heroes. She was used in the Brian K. Vaughan/Marcos Martin mini-series Doctor Strange: The Oath, which might be used in a way on a basis of their relationship in the upcoming movie.

Do you think this is the role McAdams is trying out for? Do you think Clea will still be featured or should they save her for a possible sequel?

Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016.
