The game features 650 custom pieces, including two game boards – one featuring a map of Westeros, the other a map of Essos – and sculpted armies, player boards, and character cards for up to seven players.
The Game of Thrones edition of Risk has three different play modes. In “War of Five Kings,” 3-5 players take control of Houses Stark, Martell, Baratheon, Lannister and Tyrell and war for the Iron Throne on the Westeros map. A 2-player game mode allows one player controlling House Targaryen to try to liberate the slaves held by the other player-controlled Ghiscari on the Essos map. The third mode combines both maps so that all seven Houses can go to war.
Each house has its own specially carved tokens, custom player board, and 4 character cards representing some of the most important individuals of their lineage, such as Daenerys Targaryen for House Targaryen or Cersei Lannister for House Lannister.
The game also features Territory card to claim land, Maester cards for added tactical wisdom, Objective cards for additional goals to complete during the course of conquest, gold dragon tokens for accumulating wealth, and special unit tokens to deploy.
Risk: Game of Thrones will be released in August for a suggested retail price of $74.95. Check out images of the map and custom game pieces in the gallery below.
