We now have the official nominees for the 42nd Saturn Awards, and as you might have guessed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made a big impression this year.
Videos by ComicBook.com
The science fiction behemoth netted 15 total nominations, doubling its nearest contenders Mad Max: Fury Road (9) and Crimson Peak (9). As for television, The Walking Dead (7) and Game of Thrones (5) lead the pack unsurprisingly. There was also a new category added this year titled Best New Media Television series, which looks to feature online-only shows.
As for the nominations themselves, I am surprised to see Crimson Peak get so much love. It wasn’t received that well critically or commercially, but the 9 nominations it garnered is impressive. It also bears mentioning how fantastic TV has gotten over these last few years, so much so that I find myself more engaged in who is winning the Best TV Supporting Actor and Actress categories than I do the film equivalent.
