Shadowhunters’ Isaiah Mustafa Wants A Role In Luke Cage Season 2

It’s no secret: plenty of Hollywood’s top talent wants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The blockbusting franchise kicked off back in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr. suiting up as Iron Man, and the MCU has only continued to grow. In the past years, Marvel Studios has brought their expansive universe to television as well thanks to shows like Agents of SHIELD and Netflix’s Daredevil. Now, one familiar face from Hollywood is looking to get on the company’s radar, and he’s got Luke Cage in mind.

Recently, ComicBook.com had the chance to interview Isaiah Mustafa, one of the stars of Freefrom’s Shadowhunters. The actor, who got his start as ‘The Old Spice Guy’ in commercials, has been championing for a role in Netflix’s Luke Cage for sometime. When asked whether he’d be interested in nabbing a role in the show’s second season, and Mustafa was on-board for the project.

“I mean, why not? Definitely, I’d play anything on that,” he said. “I just love the characters so much that I really just want to be a part of it in some way. Just get an opportunity to just play in that world, but I think the direction they went was probably the best direction they could have went. But yes, I would love to be involved in any aspect of any Marvel production. It would just be fun.”

Before Luke Cage debuted on Netflix, Mustafa had signaled his interest in playing Power Man to his legion of fans. The actor uploaded a fake teaser trailer of himself playing Luke Cage in order to sway Marvel Studios to his side. While the role ultimately went to Mike Colter, Mustafa could still be cast in the series’ next season. Fans were disappointed to learn that the actor’s campaign for Luke Cage undersold, so they would surely tune in to see the actor make his long-awaited Marvel debut.

During the interview, another star from Shadowhunters also signaled their interest in the superhero genre. Harry Shum Jr. said the genre has become increasingly complex over the years and that he’d like to tackle any role that came across him.

“You know the thing that fascinates me about comic books? Even when I was a kid, I don’t think it really fully materialized with me until I got older and understood the social commentary of how we can explore these things using superhuman powers that we all kind of have; It’s just kind of extended and pushed upon to supernatural abilities,” Shum explained.

“For me that’s what’s so fun to see in some of these movies that are coming out…They’re really just talking about these social injustices and issues that was started in the comic books…For me, that’s a big thumbs up and hell yes.”

Shadowhunters Season 2 is set to air on January 2, 2017 on Freeform.
