Cooper will serve as executive producer alongside Graham King (Argo) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover), while Itamar Moses (Boardwalk Empire) will pen the screenplay and co-executive produce.
“It is an absolute honor to enter into the world created by Dan Simmons that is arguably one of the greatest works of science fiction, and help realize it for television audiences,” Cooper said in a press release.
Hyperion tells a futuristic tale in which seven individuals embark on a pilgrimage amidst an intergalactic war. With the universe on the brink of annihilation, the seven will discover secrets about their own lives while possibly altering the fate of humanity.
“Hyperion is a science fiction masterpiece. Dan Simmons’ universe is unique and darkly compelling, and the creative team assembled here is simply as good as it gets,” Jeff Wachtel, President & Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, stated in a release.
