The Underworld franchise has been going strong since the first film debuted in 2003, but only in terms of box office numbers and cult following. In terms of actual critical reception, the franchise would be hard pressed to set the bar lower.

Critics have attacked the Underworld films for being bland, tasteless, and lacking any real substance. While the franchise was looking to turn things around with their final installment – Blood Wars – it looks like the movie will suffer the same fate.

Underworld: Blood Wars is set to debut Friday, January 6, and the first reviews have been released on Rotten Tomatoes. At the time of writing this article, the film has garnered a mrere 10% score on the review site.

This lines up with every other entry in the franchise, as none of the films have received a rating higher than 31% – the original Underworld scored that rating. Since then, Evolution scored a 16%, Rise Of The Lycans scored a 29%, and Awakening was given a 27%.

Breaking it down, 20 critics have reviewed the film so far, and only two have decided to give it a postivie rating. What’s even worse? The two positive reviews merely stated that fans of the Underworld franchise would enjoy the film – but casual movie-goers should probably stay away.

Ouch.

On the bright side, however, some of the negative reviews said the same thing. While they state that the movie isn’t for most, fans who have stuck with the franchise will enjoy what they’re given.

It’s a good thing the Underworld franchise is ending, because things aren’t looking good.
