Today Is Officially Recognized As Dragon Ball’s Goku Day

Happy Goku Day! Japan Anniversary Association has declared today, May 9th, Goku Day!

Toei Animation, the company behind the Dragon Ball franchise, requested the date be known as Goku Day, and their application was accepted. The date, 5/9, is significant in Japan as the number 5 is pronounced “Go” and nine is pronounced “Ku.”

Masako Nozawa, who voiced Goku, was on hand to celebrate the event. She revealed that she was apprehensive about doing voice work initially because her acting career had consisted of stage work. After she landed the role of Goku her reluctance to do voice work diminished and fully embraced the opportunity that was given to her.
