Last night E! debuted the official Veronica Mars movie trailer. Quickly, the movie team also put the clip on YouTube so that international audiences could view it, reminding the industry that fan support for the Little Show That Could goes far beyond simply the U.S. Television market, once again. The trailer itself manages to do what many properties find impossible – hitting a note of warm familiarity and organic growth at the same time. While Veronica is no longer a P.I., instead working in N.Y. as a lawyer, she is pulled back into her former life by a yet-again-accused-of-murder Logan.Tons of old cast make cameos in the trailer, to reassure fans that the movie remembers where it came from (with the exception of Francis Capra’s Weevil, who is cast in the movie but does not appear in the trailer) and while that is nice, what truly makes this exciting is that the tone is spot-on.The humor, darkness and sarcasm of the show shines in the trailer. The pacing is also worth noting. In a world of bland similar trailers, Veronica Mars ran the risk of feeling like “Anonymous Detective Movie Number 7,” but Rob Thomas and crew seemingly make a distinct choice to cut the trailer to the pacing of the show, giving fans and newcomers alike, something to watch and enjoy.Perhaps most interesting to long time fans of the show is the reveal that Veronica and Piz are together nine years after the end of the show’s timeline. With Veronica’s love life so often critical to the show’s emotionally complex storylines, and a return of Logan to her life, can drama be far behind? I’m fairly sure we all hope not.Veronica Mars opens nationwide on March 14.
