During her Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) interview yesterday, The X-Files star Gillian Anderson said that she suspects series creator Chris Carter is already working on a third movie in the feature film franchise, telling the fandom (which her co-star David Duchovny recently tried to rile into action) that they should trust the film is coming when the time is right.
“I would say that there is a very good chance that Chris is in the process of writing it,” Anderson told fans. “And as with any creative endeavor, it needs time and space and patience, and I have no doubt that at some point, when it’s the right time, and he is happy with it, it will see the light of day, and that will be the beginning.”When the long-running sci-fi TV series ended, Carter and 20th Century Fox promised that it would live on as a series of films. So far, though, there have only been two movies–one of which was made during the series’ TV run. The second film, which came out in 2008, made only about a third of the first movie’s massive-for-the-time box office take, but was more warmly received by the fan base.Said Duchovny, “You want to write Fox and get ’em going….You could wheel me [out]. I’ll play Fox Mulder forever.”
