Alright, with that out of the way, here are the five books you should give a chance this week!

Russ Burlingame: Jughead

Riverdaleย fans need something to do with the show on hiatus, and Jughead’s new creative team could be just the thing you need. The book gets a new team starting with Jugheadย #15 consisting of the talented duo Mark Waidย and Ian Flynn. If that wasn’t enough the book will also feature an appearanceย from one of the universe’s most popular characters Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and that might just be too good of a proposition to miss out on. If you’ve been waiting to give the book a chance, it seems now might be the perfect time.ย

Jugheadย #15 is written by Ian Flynn and Mark Waidย with art by Derek Charm, Matt Herms, and Jack Morelli. The official description can be located below.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch tries to do something nice for Jughead, but it ends up creating a comedy of errors in which he’s the most desired bachelor in town. From new writing team Mark Waid (Archie) and Ian Flynn (Sonic the Hedgehog)!

Jamie Lovett: Generation X

X-Men Gold and Blue can’t have all the fun, and a fan favorite team is back in comic shops courtesy of Generation X. This team is very different from those others though, as you wouldn’t necessarily classify these cadets as combat ready. Jubilee sees it as an opportunity to prove her leadership qualities though, and it should be quite entertaining to see her whip this crew into shape. Plus, you have a myriad of built in babysitters for Shogo, so it’s a win-win!

Generation X #1 is written by Christina Strain with art by Amilcar Pinnaย and a cover by Terry Dodson. The official description can be found below.

The Xavier Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach has opened its doors and is ready to foster the next generation of heroes and diplomats! But this time around, the X-Men recognize an unfortunate truth: not all mutants are created equal. Some mutants are not made to fight Sentinels or serve as ambassadors on behalf of their kind. Some mutants will just be lucky to survive another day in a world that hates and fears them. And who better to mentor mutantkind’s lovable losers than perpetual sidekick Jubilee? But will Jubilee and GENERATION X survive the experience??

Generation X #1 is in comic shops on May 17.

Matt Mueller: The Flash #22

The Flash #22 will have big ramifications for the DC Universe, as it is the finale of the “The Button” storyline that has run through Batman and The Flash. The story will also serve as a precursor to the next big part of the Watchmenย Rebirth storyline “Doomsday Clock”. Doomsday Clock will be handled by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, and Brad Anderson, and will hit stores in November. If you have any interest in this greater arc to the Rebirth universe, you’ll want to tune in for Flash #22.

The Flash #22 is written by Joshua Williamson with art by Howard Porter. Brad Anderson and Jason Fabok provide the issue’sย covers. The official description can be found below.

“THE BUTTON” part four! The cataclysmic events of DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 continue here! The Dark Knight and The Fastest Man Alive, the two greatest detectives on any world, unite to explore the mystery behind a certain blood-stained smiley button embedded in the Batcave wall. What starts as a simple investigation turns deadly when the secrets of the button prove irresistible to an unwelcome third partyโ€”and it’s not who anyone suspects! It’s a mystery woven through time, and the ticking clock starts here!

The Flash #22 is in comic shops Wednesday, May 17.

J.K. Schmidt: Kim Reaper

It’s hard being a grim reaper, especially when your customers deal in the traffic of souls. It’s not exactly something you can return or grab easily, and it’s not like there are ample jobs in the industry on the internet. Thanks to a high maintenanceย customer Kim and Beckaย are tasked with saving Kim’s job, and while it is an unfortunate predicament for Kim, it will surely be entertaining to watch.

Kim Reaper #2 is written and drawn by Sarah Graley. The official descriptionย is located below.

Like most university students, Kim works a part-time job to make ends meet. UNLIKE most university students, Kim’s job is pretty dang cool: she’s a grim reaper, tasked with guiding souls into the afterlife. Like most university students, Becka has a super intense unrequited crush. UNLIKE most university students, Becka’s crush is on a beautiful gothic angel that frequents the underworld. Of course, she doesn’t know that. Unaware of the ghoulish drama she’s about to step into, Becka finally gathers up the courage to ask Kim on a date! But when she falls into a ghostly portal and interrupts Kim at her job, she sets off a chain of events that will pit the two of them against angry cat-dads, vengeful zombies, and perhaps even the underworld itself. But if they work together, they just might make it… and maybe even get a kiss in the bargain.

Guiding souls to the afterlife doesn’t always go smoothly, especially when SOMEONE (Becka!) interrupts the job. Now, Kim and Becka must contend with a very irate and very uncooperative customer. The pair need to hatch a plan to complete Kim’s allotment of souls without interruption, or Kim may lose her job–and potentially her life!

Charlie Ridgely: God Country #5

Donny Catesย fantasyย adventure continues in God Country #5, where Emmett Quinlan continues his quest to defend his home. When one threat subsides another one approaches though, and bigger fights are on the horizon. If someone asked him “was it worth picking up the sword”, would he say yes?

God Country #5 is written by Donny Catesย with art by Geoff Shaw, Jason Wordie, and John J. Hill. Shaw provides the issue’s cover. The official description can be found below.

SOUTHERN BASTARDS meets American Gods in a high-stakes fantasy series that masterfully blends high-octane action and jaw-dropping worldbuilding. In GOD COUNTRY, readers meet Emmett Quinlan, an old widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn’t just a problem for his childrenโ€”his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his homeโ€”as well as the surrounding West Texas townโ€”a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body, however. He’s now the only man who can face these otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star Stateโ€ฆ In GOD COUNTRY, salvation is a double-edged sword.

A new storm rumbles on the horizon. Those left standing in its wake will long remember the day the God of War came to West Texas. The time for talking is done. The battle for Valofax begins here.
