Rumors started circulating that The Rock’s take on Black Adam would not be appearing in the upcoming Shazam! film, and now DC has officially cleared up the issue.

Specifically DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, who spoke to Yahoo about the news saying “We haven’t announced any casting yet, but Dwayne isn’t going to be in this movie. He’s still doing Black Adam, but he won’t be in Shazam!”

That’s got to be a bit of a disappointment for DC fans, as The Rock’s involvement with Shazam! was for the longest time the only thing interesting about the project. The good news is that his solo feature is still in development, and hopefully, it picks up steam now that Shazam! is in full swing.

The two won’t face off in either film, but perhaps that is setting up a meeting down the line, perhaps with another team of heroes? Right now it is all conjecture, but that’s really the fun of it all right?

Shazam! still doesn’t have a lead actor, but at least now it has a director, as Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out helmer David F. Sandberg will be in the director’s chair for the film. There have been rumors around a few actors for Billy Batson, including Armie Hammer, but nothing concrete has emerged.

The DCEU’s latest, Justice League, hits theaters later this year. The official synopsis can be found below.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroesโ€”Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flashโ€”it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarรกn Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, and will be followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
