The campaign to bring Justice League to theaters has been a long and cursed one for Warner Bros. (back as far as the failed Justice League: Mortal film of the late 2000s) – and that decade-long struggle has continued with the upcoming Justice League movie set within the DC Extended Universe.

After years of work, Justice League hit a major shakeup headed into the summer season, as director Zack Snyder dropped out of the project, following a family tragedy. Marvel’s Avengers director Joss Whedon has stepped in ot complete Justice League; however there are some very different accounts about how that process is taking shape.
During Comic-Con 2017 over the weekend, the DC Films stars and filmmakers all put on their happy faces, stating that all is well with Justice League. However, a new exclusive report from Variety says that the brave faces at SDCC may have been trying to hide a much more chaotic reality…
Scheduling Conflict$
According toย Variety, Warner Bros. is having a hard time wrangling the cast ofย Justice Leagueย together for reshoots, which have reportedly grown more time-consuming and expensive than anyone thought. Instead of the usual weeks of of re-shoots, and upwards of $10 million in costs,ย Justice Leagueย is now reportedly at two months of reshoots, with costs approximating $25 million.ย
More frustrating for WB and DC Films, however, has been the cost of logistical challenges of getting theย Justice Leagueย stars back in costume and on set for such a long extra span of time. Gal Gadotย and Ben Affleckย are said to be available, but Flash actor Ezra Miller has theย sequel to theย Harry Potter prequelย Fantastic Beastsย currently in production, which has forced WB to ferry him back and forth constantly.
The latestย Justice Leagueย trailer teased the possible return of Henry Cavill’sย Superman; Cavill’sย Superman will indeed be back for the film, but it’s said that his simultaneousย commitment to Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 6ย will force DC/WB to do reshootsย with Cavillย rocking his M:I6ย character’sย mustache, which will have to be removed digitally in post-production.ย
The reshoots, as a whole, are reportedly being used to injectย Justice Leagueย with some Whedon-brand snappyย dialogue, and better “connective tissue” between the massive superhero action set pieces that Snyder shot. As us pointed out, this sort of ‘Frankenstein’ approach to salvaging or reshootingย films isn’t a complete death knell for a blockbuster movie of this scale; Brad Pitt’sย World War Zย and Disney/Lucasfilm’sย Rogue Oneย both overcame such challenges in order win big at the box office.ย
