The internet is already envisioning a Janelle Monae Batgirl, and now you can get a glimpse of what that might look like.

It all started when Black Panther writer Roxane Gay showed interest in writing the Batgirl film on social media after Joss Whedon departed the project. It then picked up steam after Warner Bros. vice president Michele Wells told her "if you're serious...contact me". Since then many have shown support for her to tackle the character, and a photo shared by Gay got fans in even more of a frenzy thanks to the presence of Janelle Monae.

Gay shared a photo of herself with the actor and musician, but it was the tease that followed that got people talking. Her next tweet said, "We did discuss Batgirl." That got people even more excited, so much so that Rachael Stott decided she had to go and draw a version of Monae as Batgirl right then.

She posted the results with the caption "All it took was @rgay to mention Janelle Monae in the same tweet thread as Batgirl and this happened."

The image puts Monae in the most recent Batgirl suit (Burnside), though Whedon's previous take was reported to be based on the New 52 version of the character. Monae would be a great pick for the character regardless of what costume she ended up wearing, though have to say it would be amazing to see the new costume on the big screen.

Of course, some have also expressed issues with making the typically caucasian and red-haired character neither of those things on the big screen, and Gay put that argument into perspective.

"The imagination is interesting. Y'all can imagine a Batgirl vigilante with an eidetic memory, martial arts skills, skill with batarangs and fighting sticks, and a capacity for research but you can't imagine her without red hair. Ok!"

There is currently no release date for Batgirl, but hopefully, this does eventually come together.
