Family Guy producer Steve Callaghan announced earlier that prior to his passing, West had recorded lines for five episodes of the next season on the show.

“Mayor West will be in five more episodes of the show that are scheduled to air this coming season,” Callaghan told Entertainment Weekly.

When asked whether or not the show’s producers thought about removing the lines from the show after West’s passing, Callaghan said that the thought had never come up.

“He’s such an integral part of the series that it never even occurred to us to take that out. I would almost feel like that was somehow not properly honoring him,” reflected Callaghan.”I think the proper way to honor him is to keep the character in the show.”

Callaghan said that the crew had written roles for the Mayor West character in “two or three” more episodes that the actor hadn’t yet recorded upon his passing. They’ve since made accommodations for those scenes, Callaghan said.

According to the producer, the show has yet to decide on how to address the actor’s death on the show.

“We haven’t exactly decided how we’re going to address the departure of Adam West’s character from the series. In fact, this is something that we’ve been dealing with concerning the loss of Carrie Fisher [who was a recurring guest voice],” Callaghan said.”But what I can say is that both of their departures from the show will certainly reflect the importance that each of those characters โ€” and actors โ€” had within our series.”

West became an icon by playing the Caped Crusader on ABC’s Batman television show, which became a surprise hit when it premiered in 1966. West’s Batman is known for its campy humor and though the character has taken a darker and more serious tone over the decades, the television series remains a fan favorite.

West’s interpretation of Batman also heavily inspired the Batman animated series The Brave and the Bold, which featured a bright and humorous Batman. West had a guest role on the series as Batman’s father, Thomas Wayne, in the episode titled “Chill of the Night!”
