Before mastering the batarang — Batman’s signature throwing weapon — a young Bruce Wayne first has to learn the art of knife throwing. Of course, the boy billionaire isn’t learning on his own. He has Alfred Pennyworth, his butler and form former member of the British Special Air Service, training him, teaching him how block out distractions in order to consistently hit the target.

In the clip above, Alfred tells Bruce to distribute his weight on his back foot, pull the blade back evenly, and use a “chopping a tree branch” throwing technique. However, Bruce has trouble absorbing the lesson of precision under pressure, making an errant throw that is well off the mark after Alfred purposely draws Bruce’s attention away during his follow-through.
The clip ends with Alfred handing Bruce a note that Selina Kyle supposedly wrote and left in the Wayne Manor mailbox. It requests that Bruce meet with Selina in the city, though they haven’t spoken in weeks. Seeing as though the Court of Owls want to supplant Bruce with his Indian Hill doppelganger, I suspect it’s a phony letter intended to draw Bruce out in the open so they can make the switch.
Nygma convinces himself that he doesn’t need Penguin to succeed and begins to introduce himself to Gotham as “The Riddler.” Bullock and Lucius Fox get caught up in Nygma’s mind games, while Gordon learns troubling news about his father’s death. Meanwhile, the Court of the Owls reveals its next move.
