The world can’t get enough of Vixen, it seems. The DC Comics heroine was just recently confirmed to have joined the Justice League of America as part of the publisher’s ‘Rebirth’ storyline. And, of course, she’s been busy with her animated appearance on CW Seed’s Vixen. The solo series follows Mari McCabe as she learns of her family’s extraordinary gifts, and now, fans have learned when the hero will return for a second season.

The CW had confirmed Vixen will return for Season 2 on October 13. The new season plans to focus on Mari’s quest to become a hero. With six episodes, Season 2 will show Vixen as she expands “her sense of obligation beyond the boarders of Detroit.” Marc Guggenheim, executive producer, continued to say that “there’s a much larger world out there that needs her protection.”

Megalyn Echikunwoke will return to voice Vixen. Fans of The CW’s live-action superhero series will be familiar with the actress as she played Vixen on Arrow last season. Audiences saw Echikunwoke use her family’s Tantu Totem to channel the abilities of various elements, imbuing her with insane strength or helping her fly.

Season 2 of Vixen will also see Mari team up with the cartoon counterpart of various superheroes like Green Arrow, The Flash, and more. The character’s live-action actor will be voicing the roles for CW Seed.

Guggenheim talked about the show’s expanding line-up, saying, “We wanted to dramatize that by doubling down on the number of characters we reveal in animated form. It’s something that’s really cool and it’s not just a gimmick. It plays directly into Mari’s character journey.”

This announcement isn’t the first one fans have received about the return of Vixen. Earlier this summer, the official CW Seed Twitter apparently confirmed the show would return on October 14th before the post was pulled. The account then admitted, “We spoke too fast,” leaving fans to wonder when the actual premiere date would be.

However, fans were at least given some footage to hold them over until Season 2 of Vixen debuted. A teaser trailer debuted at San Diego Comic Con this year that showed The Flash and Firestorm battling a villain called Weather Wizard. The duo attempt to take down the baddie, but when Firestorm’s powers are extinguished, Vixen has to step into to take down the villain.

Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe’s parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and wanton violence. But the orphaned Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding her. Inheriting her family’s Tantu Totem, Mari can access the powers of animals — anything from the super-strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from the threats like those that claimed her family.

Based on characters from DC Comics, Vixen is produced by Blue Ribbon Content and Warner Bros. Animation alongside executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kriesberg.
