For the past two seasons, Gotham has been laying the foundation for Batman, but since the actor that plays Master Bruce is only 16-years-old, the show still has plenty of time to go until he becomes the city’s protector, and because of that, it is essential to continue showing the rise of the villains we know and love and showing the city fall even futher into chaos and corruption.

Collider recently asked Sean Pertwee (plays Alfred Pennyworth) and David Mazouz (plays Bruce Wayne) about how much further can things can go in the show before it all implodes.

“We’re descending into hell and it’s going to get a lot worse, for a lot longer, before Batman has an excuse to draw breath and to rise from the ashes and stand up for the little man and the good man,” Pertwee replied. “It’s going to get worse. Things are pretty bad, and we really do need some help. The numbers of the good guys are thinning. Jim Gordon’s wheels have fallen off and he’s gone man. We literally just have Lucius Fox, young master Bruce and Alfred, pitted against the world.”

Mazouz chimed in, “Batman can’t exist until he’s necessary, and he’s not necessary yet. The world of Gotham has to get a lot worse, which it will.” He added, “That’s the show. It really is the story of how a city goes from being okay to just being an absolute mess, and there needs to be a Batman to save it.”

Gordon works in a monster-ridden Gotham as a bounty hunter and seeks to find answers about the Indian Hill escapees, and why their powers appear to be killing them. Meanwhile, Bruce’s doppelganger roams the streets, and Barbara and Tabitha open a new nightclub called The Sirens.
