Born in September 1978, Ben was born in Austin, TX to parents Frances and Pieter. One of three boys, Ben grew up in Texas where he enjoys playing sports before he attended college at the University of Virginia.
Following college, the actor began to pursue his acting career professionally and looked for gigs in New York and Los Angeles. The actor then got his big break when he was cast as Ryan Atwood in The O.C. The teenage drama was an instant hit and shot Ben to global stardom as his portrayal of the show’s leading man was praised by fans and critics.
The actor then went on to star in several feature-films such as Junebug, 88 Minutes, and The Eight Percent. However, fans know Ben best for his recent work on shows such as Southland and Gotham. The former series found Ben playing a rookie cop named Ben Sherman while the latter has the actor taking on the role of James Gordon.
Gotham, a prequel to Batman, follows James Gordon who stands as the newest recruit at the Gotham City Police Department. The rookie is partnered with veteran detective Harvey Bullock as they try to solve one of the city’s most notorious crimes: the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. However, the pair’s investigation puts them in direct contact with some of of the city’s most feared villains.
As for this personal life, Ben recently became a father in March with actress Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Firefly).
