DC’s upcoming slate of movies includes the mysterious Nightwing project, but it seems more answers are right around the corner.
There hasn’t been much to go on when it comes to the solo Nightwing film, but director Chris McKay teased answers are coming soon. When a fan asked about a possible release date, McKay couldn’t quite offer one just yet but said fans should tune in around Valentine’s Day for more information.

“As usual you are right @rileyseverdeen … it’s too early to talk about casting but in February… say around Valentine’s Day maybe… I should have an update about where everything is with the first NIGHTWING movie!!”

As McKay references, that information probably won’t include any casting details, but there is still plenty of time to get all that in order. The film doesn’t release until February 1, 2019, and that date could always shift in the future. Hopefully, the new details will at least include a firm release date as well as some sort of plot information, specifically regarding its lead character.
Will it feature Dick Grayson as Robin first, or will that only be referenced in memories and flashbacks? Who will the villain be, and will any other DC characters like Batgirl, Catwoman, etc, be making an appearance? Lots of questions, so maybe a few can get answered.
The good news is that McKay is a big fan of the character, and he recently spelled out exactly what fascinates him about Nightwing.
“He’s a fascinating guy to me because he had all the same things happen to him,” McKay told the Shanlian Batman Podcast. “He’s got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint – obviously, he was adopted into Bruce Wayne’s life – but he didn’t start that way. He’s this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains. Those are things why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of Nightwing as a movie.”
Nightwing is slated to hit theaters on February 1, 2019.
