The icons of DC Comics are arguably more popular today than they’ve ever been, and their influence is quickly spreading in the tabletop genre as well. Courtesy of Panini America, DC will be entering the collectible trading card game genre with some of its finest heroes.

Panini America announced a new game at the GAMA Trade Show called the Meta-X Justice League TCG (via ICv2). The debut set will include over 250 cards, all of which will feature art inspired by the NEW 52 era of DC Comics. The Meta-X part of that equation is linked to the fighting system employed in the game (which stands for X-Over) and will grow to encompass other licenses, much like the Universal Fighting System (UFS) employed by Jasco Games.

The goal is to make the system easy for first-time players, with players taking no more than 5 minutes to pick up the core mechanics. More information will be available at San Diego Comic-Con and will be sold in Starter and Booster sets.

More comic properties in the trading card game business seem is not a bad thing at all, as long as they plan on supporting it past the initial release window. It is a bit disappointing that Panini didn’t use the Rebirth era as a base for the game as opposed to the rather mixed New 52 era, but hopefully, the first set will be successful enough to warrant a Rebirth expansion.

The Justice League will also be seen on screen later this year, and you can view the official synopsis for the film below.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroesโ€”Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flashโ€”it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarรกn Hinds, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017, while The Batman lands sometime in 2018.
