This season of The Flash is nearing its conclusion, and it appears that a months-long plot-line has come to a head in tonight’s penultimate episode.

In the closing minutes of tonight’s episode, “Infantino Street”, audiences once again saw the death of Iris West. While this event – and the prevention of it by Team Flash – has been the focus of the show since the midseason finale, it finally occurred within real time.

But with one more episode left in the show’s season, it’s safe to assume that there’s more than meets the eye. There is a very good chance that the death could be retconned – and we have a few guesses as to how.

There’s a chance, even though Iris asked him not to, that Barry could alter the timeline to undo either Iris’ death or Savitar’s creation. As of right now, there’s no indication as to how that could happen just yet, but it will probably play into the epic battle versus Savitar in next week’s finale.

In addition, there’s a chance that Iris’ death actually was already prevented – although it might bear bad news for another member of Team Flash. As we previously theorized, H.R. Wells’ face-changing technology could be used to disguise someone else as Iris, thus tricking Savitar. This Chekov’s Gun of a technology was used again in tonight’s episode, indicating that it’s definitely within the realm of possibility.

Either way, fans will have to wait and see exactly what effects Iris’ death have on The Flash – hopefully none that are too long-term.
