What’s Next In The CW’s Comic Book Shows This Week?

New comic book shows on The CW returned this week after a few weeks of being entirely or mostly off, and it’s a big week.

Tonight, iZombie fan favorite Rahul Kohli appeared on Supergirl, appearing as comic book baddie Jack Spheer, who for the purposes of the show was Lena Luthor’s ex-boyfriend.

So what else is going on this week? We figured now that everything is back — at least until Riverdale‘s finale in two weeks — it was a perfect time to lay out what’s ahead for your favorite CW comic book shows over the course of the next few days.

THE FLASH

The Once And Future Flash

In the episode, Barry Allen travels to the future in order to meet with the older version of himself who, according to Abra Kadabra, had already figured out how to defeat Savitar. 

The plan is simple: get Future Barry to dish on Savitar, so our Barry can return to 2017 in time to save Iris.

…But things seemingly get ugly pretty fast when Barry learns that Iris isn’t the only one suffering in 2024.

With Wally in a wheelchair, S.T.A.R. Labs in shambles, and Caitlin still Killer Frost, Barry has to deal with a whiny, long-haired version of himself that doesn’t seem too happy to see him.

The episode will be airing in just over three weeks; The CW’s DC Universe will be on hiatus between the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow finale next Tuesday and when Supergirl resumes on April 24.

iZOMBIE

Wag the Tongue Slowly

In last Tuesday’s episode (titled “Eat, Pray, Liv”) of iZombie, Liv dished out wisdom after consuming the brain of a lifestyle guru/yoga teacher, the memory-less Blaine meets his father (who was thought to be dead) and gives back his inheritance, Major made a new friend, and Peyton and Ravi kissed and made-up, but that went straight in the toilet moments later when Peyton found out that Ravi just slept with Katty.

Clive’s (Malcolm Goodwin) patience is tested when Liv (Rose McIver) consumes the brain of a murder victim who had the reputation of being the ultimate office gossip. Meanwhile, Blaine (David Anders) and Peyton (Aly Michalka) continue to grow closer as they wait to see if Ravi (Rahul Kohli) is able to reverse the effects of the cure. Lastly, Major (Robert Buckley) is one step away from fulfilling a promise.

In the third season, Liv has discovered there are more zombies living in Seattle than she previously believed. In fact, there is a private military contractor employing a small zombie army, and that army is preparing for the day humans learn of their existence. Major finds a job and acceptance in this army. You can also look forward to Liv eating the brains and taking on the personality traits of a dominatrix, a JACKASS-style stunt man, an office gossip, a pre-school teacher, a conspiracy nut, and a dungeon master.

iZombie is based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred for Vertigo from DC Entertainment. The series was developed for television by Thomas and Ruggiero-Wright, who executive produce along with Danielle Stokdyk (Veronica Mars, Party Down) and Dan Etheridge (Veronica Mars, Party Down). iZombie is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Spondoolie Productions and Warner Bros. ARROW

Dangerous Liaisons

Right off the bat, there was an imbalance in the relationship between Helix and Felicity. She, and Team Arrow, received all of the benefits of Helix’s hard and illegal work, but in the past several episodes, Felicity has rectified that — performing whatever tasks the hacktivist organization required of her without fully knowing what they plan to do with it.

Now that Adrian Chase/Prometheus is on the run, a desperate Felicity — who wants to avenge her dead boyfriend — will once again turn to her new “friends” for help, but this time, Helix will ask for a favor in return that really pushes the envelope and puts her up against Oliver, Diggle, and Dinah.

Oliver (Stephen Amell), Team Arrow, ARGUS and the SCPD kick off a citywide manhunt for Adrian Chase (Josh Segurra).  Helix tells Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) they have a way to find Chase but they will need something big, and illegal, from her in return.

RIVERDALE

To Riverdale and Back Again

Excluding a few unhappy spectators, Archie Andrews and Veronica Lodge’s dazzling performance at the Homecoming dance — as seen in the sneak peek above — has everybody enthusiastically stomping their feet, moving their hips, and singing along.

The theme for this year’s dance is “Blast from the Past,” so that explain why Archie and Veronica are covering Kim Wilde’s popular song “Kids in America,” which was released in 1981 and reached as high as the number 2 spot in the United Kingdom.

The only two people not enjoying their duet are Betty and Cheryl. Betty, apparently, just realized Archie and Veronica are now an item and is deeply upset to see them snuggling on stage. As for Cheryl, she always looks miserable when others are happy, so to see the blissful look on Veronica’s face, who she deems a nemesis, and Archie, the boy who recently rejected her advances, has her angry with tears.

Betty (Lili Reinhart) is slammed overseeing Homecoming and Reunion weekend, but Alice (Madchen Amick) wants her to help with the Jason Blossom investigation.  Alice turns to Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) for help, but when Betty discovers they are working with her mom, she is not happy.  After seeing his father FP (guest star Skeet Ulrich) start to clean up his act, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) wonders if it’s the right time to give him another chance. 

Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Polly (guest star Tiera Skovbye) have both decided to go to Homecoming in Jason’s honor, until a revelation waylays their plans.  Meanwhile, Fred (Luke Perry) and Mary (guest star Molly Ringwald) attend the Homecoming dance, leaving Fred to possibly reconsider the divorce.  Ashleigh Murray and Marisol Nichols also star.

Kevin Sullivan directed the episode written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Riverdale stars KJ Apa as Archie, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camilla Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Luke Perry as Archie’s father Fred Andrews, among others. The series’ showrunner is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Archie Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer and the writer of Afterlife With Archie, the publisher’s wildly popular zombie series.
