Wonder Woman has become an undisputed hit and one of the most successful films from the summer. It also reinvigorated the cinematic universe based on DC Comics superheroes, after the mixed critical reception for last year’s Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

With Justice League set to come out in less than two months followed by Aquaman‘s solo film premiering in December 2018, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins spoke with the Toronto Sun about her excitement for the DC Cinematic Universe.
“There are a lot of great filmmakers around the DC universe and there are a lot of great characters,” said Jenkins. “My favourite thing about the DC universe is some of these characters have been the greatest, most original superheroes for decades. I think there’s just exciting things to be done with them ahead and lots of different people that I’m excited about seeing.”
After being kicked off by Zack Snyder, directors like Jenkins and David Ayer have since made their own films starring DC Comics characters. They will be joined by James Wan, David F. Sandberg, and Joss Whedon in the future.
“All of us are very different and we’re all going to do different things,” Jenkins said. “So I can’t wait to see the variety, personally.”
All of the directors with superhero projects for Warner Bros. have different sensibilities. Jenkins is known for character-driven dramas on television as well as her serial killer biopic Monster. James Wan is known for horror franchises like Saw and The Conjuring, and David F. Sandberg also made his name making scary movies.
Nightwing director Chris McKay already delved in the Batman world with The LEGO Batman Movie. Though that was animated, McKay said he’s excited to make a movie for Warner Bros. because of their commitment to directors.
Wonder Woman hits Blu-ray and DVD this week and is already available on Digital HD.
