If there’s one thing we truly enjoy in Injustice 2, it’s the game’s story mode. It really does cover the spectrum of all the characters that are included in it, and treats them with respect for the most part, setting up some epic encounters that keep you fighting. But there’s a pretty good chance that we haven’t seen the end of it, as we could be seeing some sort of add-on.

Today, Ed Boon, the creative director for the folks at NetherRealm Studios, hinted at such when he hopped on Twitter today and uttered two simple words: “Story mode…”
Of course, this could mean anything, as Boon has made cryptic tweets in the past regarding stuff that he’s worked on, leading to tons of speculation amongst his fans, both in Mortal Kombat and Injustice. But this could be major, especially considering the new characters that are being added to the game.
Case in point – the much-beloved Red Hood debuted on the roster this month as the first piece of downloadable content for the game, and Mortal Kombat‘s Sub-Zero is coming next month, followed by what’s sure to be Starfire in August, and the next fighters after that. The new DLC could tie them into the story somehow, weaving it even further as Brainiac possibly regains power and calls upon other allies to give world domination another go.
Some fans have also been suggesting other ideas for the story mode, including the possibility of some kind of Teen Titans spin-off (since a good deal of characters from that show are included in the roster, or being added via DLC), as well as a possible Darkseid expansion. Of course, without Boon’s official say-so, it’s still kind of up in the air, but we’d love to see something involving a potential rise of Brainiac to power, assisted by the likes of Sub-Zero and Red Hood because, well, they’re bad-asses, obviously.
Perhaps we’ll find out more when San Diego Comic-Con comes around, as WB Interactive really likes to save some gems for when the show takes place. And considering Injustice 2‘s popularity, it’d be ideal to showcase what’s coming next for DLC at the show.
Injustice 2 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
