One such surprise was the reveal of Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, a new augmented reality experience that’s been unveiled for the first time during the D23 Expo.

The reveal began by showing off a new augmented reality headset that’s been made through a combination of efforts from Disney, Lenovo, and Lucasfilm. During the brief demonstration that was held when the headset was revealed, viewers were able to see a couple of the functions that Star Wars: Jedi Challenges would entail. A battle with AT-ATs and the chance to wield you own lightsaber were just two of the challenges that will be incorporated in the new experience. There will likey be additional components needed with the headset itself, as seen above in the brief trailer that was provided, such as lightsaber, but details are slim on the upcoming Jedi Challenges at this time.

While the augmented reality experience wasn’t one of the main events that was scheduled during the expo, it certainly received quite a bit of attention when it was showed off on-stage. Augmented reality devices have been a tough area for many companies to get their footing in due to the market for such experiences not holding a lot of options for gamers, something that might push players away when combined with the lofty pricetags that many of these devices have. This headset looks like it might size up to be an affordable step into the augmented reality experience though.

Along with Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, one of the bigger reveals that gamers were expecting concerned Star Wars Battlefront 2. The game didn’t disappoint with new information, all of which can be read here.
