Pokemon Go players have officially unlocked Legendary Pokemon. Thanks to the hard work of players around the world, Lugia will start appearing as a Raid Boss around the world in the next 48 hours.
Due to the technical issues at Pokemon Go Fest, the Legendary Pokemon roll out didn’t go quite as planned. Players around the world originally were supposed to unlock a Legendary Pokemon Raid by catching Pokemon during three Challenge Windows. If players at Pokemon Go Fest beat that Legendary Raid, it would then unlock more Legendary Raids around the world.

Instead, Pokemon Go announced that all Pokemon Go Fest players would automatically receive Lugia for attending the event. Because of the ongoing issues, it appears that Pokemon Go cancelled the Legendary Raid at Pokemon Go Fest entirely.
While players expected one Legendary Pokemon to be unlocked today, Niantic also announced the second Legendary Pokemon coming to Pokemon Go. Because Team Mystic caught the most Pokemon at Pokemon Go Fest, Articuno will be the next Legendary Pokemon added to Pokemon Go. No timeline was given for Articuno’s release.
Players at Pokemon Go Fest seemed pretty pleased to hear they’d automatically get Lugia for attending the event. Considering the network issues prevented many players from catching more than a few Pokemon, it seemed unlikely that the event would handle a massive raid.
Lugia was quietly added into Pokemon Go in the last update, along with a Shiny variant. You can get a first look at Lugia in the photo gallery above.
We’ll have more coverage on Lugia and how to beat it later this weekend. Stay tuned to WWG for more Pokemon Go news.
