Battlefield 1 has become quite the turn-around for the long-running first-person shooting series, outperforming both Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 (as well as Battlefield Hardline) with its awesome single player experience, as well as its massive multiplayer. And it looks like there's going to be more where that came from.

During an investor's call that took place last week, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that a new Battlefield game is in the works – but unlike Call of Duty, this won't be a yearly sort of thing. Instead, we won't be seeing the game emerge onto the market until sometime in 2018, so that DICE has plenty of time to give enough polish to its forthcoming Star Wars: Battlefront II, which is set to arrive on November 17th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

No other details were given past this, but Wilson did note that the game would be using the Frostbite engine yet again, the same technology that brought Battlefield 1 to frivolous life. That means environmental destruction will once again get a focus, with lots of explosions and destructible stuff, both in single player and multiplayer.

And that's about all we know at this point. While some believe we'll see some sort of follow-up to Battlefield 1 with the next game, there are other paths to consider. For instance, there could be another Battlefield: Hardline, even though Visceral Games, the developer of the game, is hard at work on its unnamed Star Wars project with Uncharted writer Amy Hennig.

And, fingers crossed, hopefully EA is considering a return of its Battlefield: Bad Company franchise. We haven't seen this one in a few years, and the past couple of games – as well as its Vietnam add-on – have been a lot of fun . Hopefully, we'll see that series make a comeback, as great as Battlefield 1 may be.

We probably won't get more details on this game until sometime early next year, unless EA has something to say about it at GamesCom later in August. We'll find out what's going on.

In the meantime, Battlefield 1 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and you can check out its latest expansion, In the Name of the Tsar, in September.
