Back in May, it was revealed Marvel Comics would be helping hype the upcoming video game Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with a series of variant comic book covers set to be released this August. Marvel has since unveiled previews of most of these covers, and some of them contain some surprises.

Most notably, the cover for Spider-Man/Deadpool #12 doesn’t feature either titular character. Instead, it focuses on Marvel villain Dormammu and Firebrand from Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Demon’s Crest. Neither of these characters had been confirmed for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite yet, so them showing up on the cover was certainly unexpected. Was this an under-the-radar roster reveal?
That’s exactly what it was! Capcom have officially announced Firebrand and Dormammu are in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and will get a gameplay reveal soon:
The Dread Dormammu and Firebrand the Red Blaze are fired up Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and this week they kick off our Marvel Comics variant covers. Spider-Man vs. Deadpool #20 out Aug 2, and look for Dormammu & Firebrand gameplay during Gamescom, August 22.
Dormammu and Firebrand may be somewhat obscure characters, but they were part of the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster, and generally well-liked by fans of the game. There were some rumors Dormammu would be in Infinite, but Firebrand is pretty much a total surprise.
Since Dormammu and Firebrand turned out to be legit Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite characters, we can probably assume Mighty Thor (aka Jane Foster) will also be a playable character, as she also shows up on another one of Marvel’s variant covers. You can check out all the covers, right here.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite brawls onto PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 19. Don’t forget that you’ll get a 20% discount on the game through Amazon Prime and launch day delivery!
