You might have read our report earlier today indicating that Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two, would be extending the life of Grand Theft Auto V, considering that it's remained a best-selling title four years after its release. This opens up all kinds of speculation, not only with Grand Theft Auto Online, but also with the possibility we could finally be getting some single player DLC for the main game.

But that won't come for some time, and by the time it does surface, it could be going head-to-head with Rockstar's next forthcoming release, Red Dead Redemption 2. But Take-Two reassured that this won't be a horserace between the two titles, as it expects to support both titles equally.

During a recent earnings call, Take-Two noted that the two will be balanced equally so that sales won't get ahead of one another. CEO Strauss Zelnick stressed that there's enough room in the marketplace for both games – and that will lead to great success for the company.

"When there's more than one title in the marketplace that compels people, the market also expands to take advantage of it," said Zelnick. "The marketplace can be competitive, but it's rarely directly competitive title-to-title, whether that's a title that comes out under the Take-Two umbrella or any of our competitors or anything else for that matter."

"We're really looking forward to the release of Red Dead Redemption 2; we're really excited and enthusiastic, of course," he continued. "We don't think that has anything to do at all with how Grand Theft Auto [V] and Grand Theft Auto Online will perform."

He concluded, "All entertainment titles compete against every other possible use of your time and they don't compete specifically against our games or anyone else's games. They compete against everything, against text messaging, going to movies, reading a book, doing your work. Entertainment is a 'nice to have,' not a 'must have.'"

We're not sure what Rockstar's plans for the games are just yet, but 2018 will definitely be a huge year for the company.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive in early 2018 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
