If you were had to pick the perfect studio to make a Games of Thrones RPG, Bethesda (the folks behind Skyrim and Fallout) would have to be at the top of the list, but come on, something that perfect could never happen, right? Or could it? According to a retail leak, the dream pairing of Game of Thrones and Bethesda could actually be a reality!

Eagle-eyed fans on NeoGAF recently noticed a Target listing for something called “Bethesda: Game of Thrones.” Aside from that title we don’t have any other information โ we don’t even necessarily know it’s a video game, although it seems likely it is. Also, as with any retail leak, this could just be a mistake, although it’s a very specific mistake to make. Hopefully we don’t have a Thronie prankster working at Target.
With Game of Thrones Season 7 wrapping up tonight, could an announcement be on the way?

If Bethesda is working on a Game of Thrones title, it will be interesting to see what form it takes. Will Bethesda’s main RPG studio be working on the game? It’s been nearly six years since Skyrim came out, with no news on a follow up โ could Bethesda have been plugging away on a Game of Thrones title for the past half-decade? If they have, it’s amazing that the game’s existence hasn’t leaked until now.
There have been several Game of Thrones video games over the years, including two RPGs that came out in 2011 and 2012, a mobile strategy game, and Telltale’s episodic series, but none have truly lived up to the series’ vast potential. The early RPGs and strategy game were outright lousy, and Telltale’s series, while fun enough, didn’t really capture the full scope of Westeros.
No doubt, a Bethesda Game of Thrones RPG would be a huge deal, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves โ for now, all we can do is hope this leak is the real deal. Games of Thrones‘ Season 7 finale airs tonight on HBO at 9pm ET.
