As September comes to an end, gaming is now entering its biggest season of the year with the holidays right around the corner. We’re getting not only some new spooky games just in time for October, but also some of the biggest budget AAA titles that dominate the end of year sales charts. There’s a lot on the horizon and realistically, most of us won’t have the time or money to play all of these great new games, but some of them will almost definitely pad out our backlogs. It’s been a good year for gaming and there will likely be some last minute Game of the Year contenders.

To help you figure out which games you may want to prioritize, I’ve rounded up a list of some of the biggest games still coming out this year in order of their release. There should be something for just about everyone too!
Silent Hill f

This week marks the first brand new premium Silent Hill video game in over a decade. Of course, we got the free downloadable game Silent Hill: The Short Message and the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake a year ago, the latter of which revitalized the dead horror franchise. The series has been on ice since 2015 when Konami cancelled Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills despite major anticipation for the title and the last major entry in the series was Silent Hill: Downpour, released in 2012.
Silent Hill f also puts an interesting spin on the series as it’s not even set in the titular haunted town at all. It’s set in Japan with a young school girl at the center of its story and takes a lot of the psychological horror elements that the series is known for, but applies it to a whole new take on the franchise. Reviews for Silent Hill f are glowing and prove that Konami can not only successfully remake games in the series, but make new meaningful entries as well.
Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, finally arrives on PS5 on October 2nd. This is one of the most anticipated PS5 games this year thanks to the fact Tsushima was such a refreshing action/adventure game with strong gameplay. Yotei will take place hundreds of years after its predecessor, so it’s narratively unrelated to the previous game and will be an easy entry point into the franchise for people.
However, it will still scratch the itch that Tsushima fans have by building upon the strong gameplay foundation established in 2020. As of right now, the jury is still out on if the game will succeed critically, but it will still likely be one of the biggest first-party games of the year.
Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 is bringing EA’s large-scale military shooter franchise back from the brink of death. The series stumbled with Battlefield 2042 thanks to poor creative direction and a messy launch, but Battlefield 6 looks like a true return to form. The game will feature 64-player multiplayer with large scale maps, custom-made content from fans via Portal, and a single player campaign, something that wasn’t even included in 2042.
Battlefield 6 will also feature a battle royale, though it is expected to release sometime after the full game. Either way, it’s a value-rich product and one that seems to be aiming to please longtime fans while still luring in new ones. Battlefield 6 will release on October 10th.
Pokemon Legends: Z – A

Pokemon Legends: Z- A is the first Pokemon game built for the Nintendo Switch 2 and one of the biggest first-party games for the console this year. Pokemon Legends: Z – A is expected to be quite different from past games, which should feel somewhat refreshing for fans. ComicBook writer Amanda Kay Oaks previewed Legends: A – Z and noted that while it’s a departure from the series, it’s still a quality game that will likely engage fans when it releases on October 16th.
“What I’ve come away with is the sense that what makes a Legends game is experimentation,” reads the preview. “It’s a space for Pokemon to play around with something outside the usual formula to see what works. It gives fans a different way to engage with the franchise, potentially bringing new fans into the mix by offering something to pique their interest even if the usual Pokemon format did not. Although playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A didn’t quite feel like playing Pokemon, it did feel like a game I could sink a solid chunk of time into.”
The Outer Worlds 2

Obsidian’s Fallout-esque RPG series gets its first sequel with The Outer Worlds 2. The game will be doubling down on the satirical, tongue-in-cheek tone that made the first game so entertaining while also deepening the gameplay. With The Outer Worlds 2 being developed under Xbox, other teams including Halo Studios helped shape the gunplay so it could be improved beyond the first game. One of the biggest gameplay additions comes in the way of perks.
The game will be actively monitoring your behavior and noting patterns, which can introduce “flaws” that impact your game. One example is that if you’re crouching a lot, you will get a perk that lets you move faster while crouched, but when you stand back up, your knees will make a loud popping sound and then alert anyone around you. It’s a fun way to create a more reactive and engaging experience that creates unique trade-offs for rewarding perks. The Outer Worlds 2 releases on October 29th.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be not just a sequel to Black Ops 6, but also the beloved Black Ops 2 as well. The new shooter is set in 2035, a decade after Black Ops 2, and follows David Mason contending with the return of extremist Raul Menendez. The co-op campaign is expected to be yet another trippy adventure that sees that takes the characters through Mason and Menendez’s past, which should lead to some unique set pieces and conflict.
Of course, Black Ops 7‘s multiplayer will be the meat and potatoes of this package. The multiplayer will feature 18 multiplayer maps at launch, including remakes of classic Black Ops 2 maps like Raid, Express, and Hijacked. The multiplayer will have a big new feature known as wall-jumping which is sort of the halfway point for the technology that eventually becomes wall-running in the Black Ops universe. Players can bounce off of walls, allowing them to cross large gaps, boost up to an elevated level, or quickly dodge out of danger.
Zombies fans will also get treated to a brand new round-based experience inspired by Tranzit with an upgradable and drivable pick-up truck to traverse the map with. All in all, it looks like yet another high-value package for the series. Black Ops 7 releases on November 14th.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After nearly a decade of development, multiple set backs, and even a change of developers, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will finally release on December 4th for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The new game will continue Samus’ story and see her battling foes and traversing a new planet with a motorcycle, allowing some open-world elements for the new entry. It’s one of the most anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 games out there and fans are hoping the extended wait will be worth it.
