A 9-year-old Capcom game and former 3DS exclusive is finally coming to Xbox consoles for the first time, alongside its sequel. In other words, Xbox users are about to have two new Capcom games to play. Unfortunately, for those on Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, the new releases are going to be limited to Xbox One; however, they will be playable on the current-gen consoles via backward compatibility.

More specifically, Xbox users across both generations of Xbox consoles, starting on November 14, will be able to play Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The pair of turn-based RPGs is set to hit Xbox platforms ahead of the release of their sequel, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, which is set to come to Xbox Series X and other platforms on March 13, 2026. In other words, the entire Monster Hunter spin-off series is set to be available to Xbox users.
About the Games
Monster Hunter Stories is an RPG with turn-based combat that debuted back in 2016 as a Nintendo 3DS exclusive. Last year, it was brought to Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4, and now it’s completing the port cycle with an Xbox One port. Upon release, the spin-off game garnered a 79 on Metacritic and sold well enough to get a sequel in 2021, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which at first was a Nintendo Switch console exclusive, only available on Switch and PC. In 2024, it came to PS4, and now it is coming to Xbox One, again completing the port cycle. Upon release, it garnered an 82 on Metacritic, slightly better than its predecessor. This and sales were also good enough to get another follow-up ordered.
A Long Wait Almost Over
Obviously, despite the series being primarily associated with Nintendo, there are Monster Hunter fans on Xbox consoles, especially thanks to the recent Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Wilds. That said, these same fans were starting to think they would never get these spin-off games. Now that they are, they are unsurprisingly excited.
“I’m so happy they finally did it,” reads the top comment on the YouTube trailer above. “Now I can finally have the Stories collection on Xbox.” Another comment adds: “Finally, just take my paycheck.”
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Will you be checking out these Capcom games once they hit Xbox? If these new Capcom surprises don’t tickle the fancy, they aren’t the only new surprises for Xbox fans. There was also a new stealth release this week from fellow Japanese game maker, Square Enix.
